Discover more about Wantage Concert Brass

Wantage Concert Brass is the first section contesting band in the Wantage Silver Band (WSB) family, competing in a variety of contests and concert each year, which this year includes Pershore Festival on 6th July, as well as the London and Southern Counties Regionals held in March, and a number of external events at locations including Kingston Bagpuize House and Buscot Park.

The band is made up of advanced, high quality players, who work hard to improve their playing and become better musicians, and to play to the best of their ability. The band performs a varied repertoire and enjoys playing a range of music from the most serene solos  to the more rousing pieces that make the audience want to jump up and dance (or occasionally fall off their chairs) – it’s a real night at the proms!

Concert Brass has a proud history of supporting its finest (and bravest) players on their way to reach their musical goals, with some players progressing through the band to join Wantage Band, the championship section band with WSB. This is a vital role within the band, and as sad as we are to see these players leave us, we are overjoyed at their success and see Wantage, as a whole, succeed.

Under the newly appointed Musical Director, Dr Chris Davis OBE, the band is working hard on maintaining their presence in the first section, building on their improving performance and results over the last couple of years. The journey has started, and in just a month of working under Chris, the standard of the band has risen… but you will have to come along to our next concert and see for yourselves! Terry Carton
