The Southern Counties Amateur Band Association has awarded the Wantage Silver Band the distinction of Community Band of the Year for 2011. An independent panel of respected judges oversaw the ‘Brass in the Community’ award process and their decision was unanimous.

Wantage Youth Brass presented a fantastic concert in aid of the Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy Charity on Saturday 12th March in Grove Village Hall.

A packed room at East Challow Village Hall on Saturday 5th March was proof of another entertaining quiz designed by Wantage Silver Band’s resident Quiz Masters.
Schools Initiative
The Wantage Silver Band is continuing its policy of offering brass tuition and instruments to local Primary Schools.
Full House for Rotary Charity Concert
Saturday's concert in the Civic Hall drew a capacity audience, no doubt attracted by the combination of the 'A' band, the Reading Scottish Pipe Band, and (making their first appearance in Wantage) the Doyle Academy Irish Dancers.
Allan Tomkins
The Wantage Band is sad to lose one its stalwarts, Allan Tomkins, who died on February 7th at the age of 70. Allan and his family all played in the Band – Allan on Bb bass, Carol on horn, Claudia and Anna on flugel and cornet – the whole family were a major part of Band life.

Our 'A' Band competes in the prestigious Championship Section of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
