Annual Concert 2009

This year's annual concert on Saturday October 10th played to a packed audience at Wantage Civic Hall. The format again featured all current sections of the organisation playing three or four items, from Training Band through to 'A' Band. The concert opened with 'B' Band playing Ron Goodwin's music for the film "Where Eagles Dare", featuring prominent percussion from Matthew Myers and Zara Giles (above). The evening was somewhat marred by the failure of the curtain opening mechanism for the final session from 'A' Band, but stirling effort from a few volunteers held them draped back in Victorian style!

The opportunity was taken, as usual, to present the WSB awards for the past year. Pictured below receiving their cups from Wantage Mayor, Patrick O'Leary, are (left to right): Bandsman of the Year - Olivia Middlebrook; Personality of the Year (Joe Payne Cup) - Peter Newcomb; Youth Band Trainee - Calum Thomson; Training Band Most Improved Player (Jill Pollard Cup) - Joseph Willis; The Enterprise Award - Roger Middlebrook; President's Award - Roy Cole. The new Ken Robey Cup for Meritorious Service was presented to Judith Chapman by Ken's daughter, Delia Mulford.
