Wantage 'B' Band
The "B" Band mainly concentrates on competing at contests, however they are always in demand for concerts too.
2014 has been a very good year:
'B' Band's prowess has been rewarded and we are extremely pleased to say that following their promotion to 2nd Section as of January, they then competed at the Regionals in Stevenage in March and gained 2nd place. An amazing achievement as they had only just been promoted. Then to cap it all they played at the Finals at Cheltenham in September and were placed 8th out of 17 bands. What a fantastic team.
This group is conducted by Danny Dullforce, who returned to WSB after gaining valuable conducting experience elsewhere.
The above picture shows the band centertaining at the BBQ. The picture below shows the band just before they competed at Cheltenham.
Danny began playing in the Wantage Silver Band, and has progressed to be a leading euphonium player who has played with many top bands. He also plays tuba in a brass quintet. He showed a talent for conducting at an early age, and for some time was resident conductor of the top section Lydney Band; he now concentrates on the Wantage ‘B’ Band and has taken them from the 4th Section to the dizzy heights of 2nd Section.
Wantage Silver Band has been making music in Wantage, Oxfordshire and beyond since 1972.
Our 'A' Band competes in the prestigious Championship Section of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and having won the Regionals recently will be competing at the Championships in October at the Royal Albert Hall. Our 'B' Band was promoted to Second Section this year and competed at the Nationals in Cheltenham in September gaining an 8th place. Our Academy Brass competed for the first time in Fourth Section this year. To complete WSB we have a Concert Brass, a Youth Brass, a Trainer Band, Beginners and the Big Band.
